While Model A Steering does provide a complete kit for rebuild of your two-tooth steering box, there are a few items that you may want to get to help you create a perfect steering box project. There are a few parts that are inexpensive and readily available for those who want a totally “new” steering box with all new parts and fasteners. Some parts listed are also needed if you are going to also rebuild/refresh your steering column tube and controls.
Here is a list of parts with the Ford part numbers that are available from all of the regular parts suppliers that you may want to consider. The parts shown in RED are considered essential instead of using the old used hardware.
-
STEERING COLUMN CLAMP Part # A-3507
-
STEERING BOX TO FRAME MOUNTING SET Part # A-3547-MB
-
CLAMP BOLT/NUT/LOCK WASHER Part # A-3507-MB
-
STEERING BOX OIL FILL PLUG 1/4 THREAD Part # A-3538
-
STEERING HOUSING END PLATE WITH TUBE Part # A-3568-T
- Note that we have found that the tube end plates with VINTICUE stamped on the plate may have a slightly larger diameter and may not fit into the bore on the bottom of our steering shafts
Some folks will also rebuild their steering column to include the top bushing, timing and accelerator rods, bushings and levers, horn and light rod, and other associated parts. It is one of those “while you are there” add-on extras. It is worth considering.
