{"id":239,"date":"2026-06-30T19:00:32","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T23:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/modelasteering.com\/?p=239"},"modified":"2026-06-30T19:00:32","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T23:00:32","slug":"steering-and-transmission-project-done","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/modelasteering.com\/?p=239","title":{"rendered":"Steering and Transmission Project DONE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We have completed our steering box install and five-speed transmission install on our &#8217;30 Tudor. \u00a0WOW! \u00a0WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>The steering is now stable and smooth, and effort is pretty low even though we have 6.50-16 tires mounted on the car. \u00a0<\/strong>The difference is amazing! \u00a0We did the box rebuild while the transmission was out of the car, so in-and-out was a breeze.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>The T5 Five Speed is also a great success.<\/strong> \u00a0The car shifts effortlessly, full synchros make up and down shifting quite easy, and having a gear between the old second and third adds to the versatility of the car in traffic. \u00a0In fifth gear, the 28% overdrive keeps RPMs around 1700 at 50 mph. \u00a0This one change will do more than anything else we could do to save our original engine from damage and wear due to over-revving or sustained high RPM driving. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">We have put about a hundred and fifty miles on this new steering and transmission combination with absolutely no issues. \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Our Tudor now has a new attitude &#8211; it is more like a modern car and less like an &#8220;antique.&#8221; \u00a0At the same time, we insulated the inside of the firewall with a plastic\/jute item from Snyders and also put Amazon-sourced self-stick sound and heat insulation on both the top and bottom of the wooden floors. \u00a0Even in our 90+ temps here in central Florida, there is a notable difference in interior temperatures. \u00a0The sound level is also way down due to the insulation AND the lower RPMs. \u00a0Normal conversation at 50 mph is great!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Changing the transmission was a job and a half &#8211; I won&#8217;t sugar-coat it<\/strong>. \u00a0But the kit that I got from Dennis Patrick at \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/modela5conv.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Model A 5 Conversion<\/a> is both complete and well-engineered. \u00a0I have done a lot of &#8220;kit&#8221; stuff with complete cars as well as fiberglass body parts, engine conversions, etc. and face it &#8211; stuff never really fits well. \u00a0With Dennis&#8217; kit, it all fits like it is supposed to. \u00a0Great job, highly recommend. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Let me know if you have questions!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Kevin<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have completed our steering box install and five-speed transmission install on our &#8217;30 Tudor. \u00a0WOW! \u00a0WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!
